Faith Statement
THE NICENE CREED
I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures: And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spake by the Prophets: And I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins: And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the Life of the world to come.
Amen.
DISCIPLESHIP MANDATE
The Great Commission is a mandate from our Lord Jesus requiring both obedience to His Word but also a proper context for successful Christian living. The Scriptures teach that God works through: (1) The faithful preaching and teaching of the Gospel (Romans 10:14), but also (2) the act of making disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). In this way, we see that preaching and teaching are connected, although different. Sitting under the Sunday preaching of the Word is important but is not enough to produce an authentic discipleship process. Whereas preaching is about the proclamation of the Word, teaching is about understanding the Word, and discipleship is all about assimilating the Word, i.e., being obedient to the Word proclaimed and understood. There is an educational task, but there is also a practical outworking (application) that is needed. Both education and Biblical discipleship should occur within the context of the local church because Christianity is more than inspirational living or individual piety.
As Christian Believers, we are called into authentic relationship and community through corporate worship, equipping and empowered service as the Body of Christ. Jesus gave us the model in the Great Commission: “disciple the nations.” Christian Call Bible Institute is motivated to help local churches fulfill the educational task that is part and parcel with the Great Commission mandate to make disciples of all nations. The early church did several things consistently well that the contemporary church should model (but oftentimes does not). We should seek to model the following five marks of the mother church of Christianity (The Jerusalem Church): “… continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42). “… they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following” (Mark 16:20).
APOSTLES DOCTRINE (the educational task) [theologia]
FELLOWSHIP (the pastoral task) [koinonia]
COMMUNION/PRAYERS (the worshipping task) [doxologia]
WENT FORTH EVERYWHERE (the missional task) [diakonia]
SIGNS FOLLOWING (the charismatic task) [charismata]
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen (Matthew 28:18-20).
